A study in theBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacologysuggests that sildenafil, the active ingredient in Kamagra, may be associated with increased cardiovascular side effects, particularly in patients with diabetes, where these side effects are commonly seen in the elderly. In this study, we aimed to determine whether sildenafil was associated with increased cardiovascular risk in patients with diabetes, and to examine the association between the two drugs in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and the results of this study.
Sildenafil was administered to 27 men and 26 women, aged 18 to 70 years, from two tertiary referral hospitals in the north west of Birmingham. Sildenafil doses were calculated by using the Sildenafil Tablet (Pfizer, New York, USA). The participants were followed for up to 14 days. The study design was designed to examine the cardiovascular risk associated with sildenafil use in patients with CKD and chronic renal failure (CKD). The study was approved by the study board and performed in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki and Good Clinical Practice. The study protocol was reviewed and approved by the Committee for the Use of Human Research in Laboratory Animals at the University of Birmingham. A registered human study protocol was registered on ClinicalTrials.gov and was approved by the National Agency for Drug Control and Control (ANRCTN) Committee for the Safety and Effectiveness of Medicines (CEUS). The study was registered on ClinicalTrials.gov, and the study authors provided their approval for the study.
The results of this study are presented in Figure 1. Of the 26 participants, 19 were followed for up to 14 days. The mean age of participants was 73.0 ± 5.1 years (range: 52.2–89.2 years). The mean duration of diabetes was 11.8 ± 4.4 years (range: 10–24), and the average duration of CKD was 3.6 ± 1.6 years (range: 2–8). The mean duration of chronic kidney disease (CKD) was 4.3 ± 1.5 years (range: 2–9).

The average number of comorbidities was 6.3 ± 1.6, and the average number of smoking habits was 2.6 ± 1.6. The mean duration of diabetes was 11.9 ± 3.3 years (range: 10–24), and the average duration of CKD was 2.7 ± 1.6 years (range: 2–9).
The difference between the groups was statistically significant (P<.001), and the mean difference between groups was statistically significant (<.01). There was a statistically significant association between the two drugs and the cardiovascular risk in the patients with CKD (Table 2).
